If your courtyard is small, walled in, or overshadowed by fences and brickwork, you already know it doesn’t behave like a normal garden. Sun moves differently. Water pools in odd spots. And whatever you plant is on display all year, since there’s no wide lawn to hide behind.

You’ve watched the water bill climb every summer, watered a lawn that turns brown anyway in the heat, and wondered if there’s a better way to landscape a backyard in a dry climate. There is, and a desert landscaping backyard is exactly that: less water, less mowing, and a look that actually fits where you live.

Your backyard probably looks great at two in the afternoon and disappears by nine at night. That’s the moment most gardens quit working, and it’s exactly why moon garden ideas keep showing up in every search you do before bed.
